A week long wool festival in Welwyn Garden City’s Howard Centre with many well known independent yarn sellers and designers, displaying their latest yarns and exciting new patterns for winter, plus workshops, book signings and much more.
What are the dates and times?
The wool festival is open every day from Saturday 20th January until Friday 26th January, 10 am – 5 pm (except Sunday 11am – 4 pm)
How much does it cost to visit the festival?
Entrance is free, unless you would like to come to the Preview Evening, where tickets are £10. Click here for tickets.
How easy is it to drive to the event and is there parking?
For those travelling by car, we are just 5 minutes from Junction 4 of the A1(M). The 745 space car park is situated directly adjacent to the Howard Centre offering reasonably priced, secure parking. There are designated disabled parking spaces located on Level 1 of the Car Park, conveniently located close to our First Floor Centre entrance. These can be found by following the blue painted floor lane. There are also several parent and child car parking spaces on levels 3, 5, and 7 in the car park adjacent to the pay stations.

Where can I stay in Welwyn Garden City?
The Travelodge is only a stone's throw away from both the train station and the Howard Centre. It is the ideal place to stay if you would like to visit the wool festival a few times during the week

Welwyn Garden City train station is connected to our First Floor entrance, via a link bridge, with not only direct access the centre but the rest of the town centre. The train services are currently provided by Thameslink and Great Northern.
We also have the train station’s ticket office on the First Floor. There are 4 ticket machines; 3 standard touch screen machines and one “card only” machine. There are also help-points located within the station.

If you are travelling by bus, the Bus Station is right outside the Shopping Centre.
What is the accessibility like for visitors with limited mobility?
The Howard Centre is fully wheelchair accessible with step free access into the Centre, from Howardsgate and Osborn Way. We also have lifts providing access to and from the First Floor and The Howard Centre Car Park, from all levels.
Access is also available from Welwyn Garden City Train Station to the First Floor of The Howard Centre.
Where are the toilets?
Customer toilets (male/female and disabled) are located on the first floor, opposite the main lifts at the South Mall end of the centre. There is a parent and baby room located on the first floor near the customer toilets.
How can I pay for workshops and my purchases?
Workshops can be booked via the links on this website.
Purchases can be made with cash or card at the central cash desk.
There is a Barclays Bank located in the centre with several internal and two external cash machines.
Are food, drinks and refreshments available at the event?
There are a number of cafes in the Howard Centre, including Wenzels next door to the shop and Muffin Break upstairs in the North Mall. You are welcome to bring your drink and sit and relax with your knitting and crochet.
